Wontons
Preparation time :: 20 minutes.
Cooking time :: 25 minutes.
Serves :: 4.
An ever popular chinese starter.
Ingredients.
- For the wontons -
wonton wrappers
- oil for deep frying.
- For the wonton stuffing -
- 1 teacup boiled noodles.
- 2 teacups finely chopped cabbage.
- 2
onions, finely chopped.
- 1
carrot, grated.
- 1
teacup bean sprouts.
- 1/2 teaspoon Ajinomoto powder (optional).
- 1
teaspoon soya sauce.
- 2
tablespoons oil.
- salt to taste.
- To Serve -
green garlic sauce.
- For the tempering -
- 2 teaspoons chopped garlic.
- 2
tablespoons chopped
spring onions.
- 1/2
teaspoon chopped
green chillies.
- 1
tablespoon oil.
- salt to taste.
Preparation.
For the wonton stuff

Heat the oil in a wok or frying pan on a high flame. Add the cabbage, onions, carrot, bean sprouts and Ajinomoto and stir fry over a high flame for 3 minutes.
- Add the noodles, soya sauce and salt.
For the wontons
-
Roll out the wrapper dough into thin circles of about 65 mm. diameter.
- Put a little stuffing in the centre of each dough circle and fold over to make a semi-circle. Bring the ends together and press.
- Repeat with the remaining dough and stuffing.
For fried wontons
- Deep fry the wontons in oil.
- Serve with green garlic and chilli garlic sauce.
For steamed wontons

Arrange the wontons on a greased plate and steam for 10 minutes.

Prepare the tempering by heating the oil in a wok or frying pan on a high flame and stir frying the garlic, spring onions and green chillies for a few seconds. Add salt.
- Pour the tempering over the steamed wontons and serve hot.
